Several tour dates in Far East cancelled as chart-topping singer-songwriter reveals extent of injurires

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has confirmed that he sustained fractures in both arms when he was involved in a bike crash earlier this week and that he will have to cancel a number of forthcoming concerts in the Far East.

He broke the news in a post on Instagram, the same social media channel where he announced his initial injury on Monday, when he posted a picture of himself with his right arm in a plaster cast.

But now the 26-year-old says that as well as breaking his right wrist, he has also fractured his left elbow.

“A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future,” he said.

“Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

“I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details.”

On Monday, Sydney-based DJ Smallzy, who knows the British musician, said on social media that sources close to Sheeran had told him he had been knocked from his bike in a collision with a motor vehicle in London, though no further details have emerged.

In his original Instagram post on Monday, Sheeran said: I’ve had a bit of a bicycle accident and I’m currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my upcoming shows. Please stay tuned for further news.”

Born in Scotland, Simon moved to London aged seven and now lives in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds with his miniature schnauzer, Elodie. He fell in love with cycling one Saturday morning in 1994 while living in Italy when Milan-San Remo went past his front door. A daily cycle commuter in London back before riding to work started to boom, he's been news editor at road.cc since 2009. Handily for work, he speaks French and Italian. He doesn't get to ride his Colnago as often as he'd like, and freely admits he's much more adept at cooking than fettling with bikes.
